Borderland Collective: Building Space for Inquiry and Dialogue 


Associate Professor of Photography, Jason Reed will discuss recent projects of Borderland Collective, a long-term art and education project founded by Reed in 2007. Utilizing collaborations between artists, educators, youth, and community members, “Borderland Collective” engages complex issues, such as migration and energy policy, and builds space for diverse perspectives, meaningful dialogue, and modes of creation and reflection.

Director Approaches to Shakespeare in the U.S.


In this Dean’s Seminar Distinguished Achievement presentation, Chuck Ney examines aesthetic values and how they influence directors in shaping productions. He discusses production concepts and contexts, experiments in contemporizing the text, as well as options for script preparation and staging. In addition, he will briefly review how the director tackles verse and heightened language issues, focuses on behavior or action, uses technology and creates pictures to tell a story. The presentation will include a demonstration of techniques directors use to illustrate how a director’s value system can influence outcomes.
