Director Approaches to Shakespeare in the U.S.
In this Dean’s Seminar Distinguished Achievement presentation, Chuck Ney examines aesthetic values and how they influence directors in shaping productions. He discusses production concepts and contexts, experiments in contemporizing the text, as well as options for script preparation and staging. In addition, he will briefly review how the director tackles verse and heightened language issues, focuses on behavior or action, uses technology and creates pictures to tell a story. The presentation will include a demonstration of techniques directors use to illustrate how a director’s value system can influence outcomes.
