Sunnie Oh

Sunnie Oh

Sunnie Oh, a Senior Lecturer in the piano area, is holding a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Michigan State University and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Texas State University. She also pursued post-graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Oh was the recipient of numerous scholarships and fellowships. She gave piano recitals and performances in South Korea, Slovenia, and several states in the US. Ms. Oh's credentials include several published compositions and publications on piano pedagogy.

At the 2005 conference of the College Music Society's South Central Chapter, she presented the research paper "Philosophies of Teaching Adult Group Piano Revisited.”
In 2006, sponsored by Samsung Corporation, she performed a piano concerto by Jae-Eun Park, the president of the Korean Women Composer’s League. Her past experiences of teaching aural skills and group piano classes at the University of Oklahoma and Texas State University inspired her to pursue the highest level of Mastership in Music Learning Theory Workshops from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning in 2006 and 2007.

Ms. Oh’s responsibilities at Texas State University include group piano classes for music majors and non-music majors as well as collaborative piano with several university choirs. With her experiences of private piano teaching and group piano as well as music instructions in public schools, she seeks to incorporate multicultural aspects and aural skills techniques along with music learning theory into her piano instructions.

A highly sought-after pre-college piano teacher, Ms. Oh also has a private studio in San Marcos. As a winner of the second prize of the Aspiring Organist Competition of the American Guild of Organists (Greater Lansing Area, Michigan) in 1998, she continues to perform organ at churches in South-Central Texas.

Ms. Oh is the Secretary of the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Composers USA, the editor of the College Music Society's South Central Chapter Newsletter, and a Review Board member of the refereed journal "South Central Music Bulletin.” She is also an adjudicator at the annual Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competitions.
