TXST Comm Studies Alums

Texas State University alums Bailey and Anthony Smith are featured contestants on the 36th Season of CBS’ “The Amazing Race.” Graduates of TXST’s communication studies program, the twin brothers are competing for a chance to win $1 million.

Outstanding Master's Program

Texas State's Department of Communication Studies was awarded Outstanding Master's Degree Program (2018) by the National Communication Association. Our program demonstrates excellent quality in developing research and teaching practical real world skills.

Your Goals, Your Degree

With the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, students can choose from four optional concentrations: Relationship Management and Well-being, Professional and Organizational Advancement, Persuasion, Advocacy, and Civic Engagement, and Teacher Certification.

Organizations

The department proudly sponsors the Delta Beta Chapter of the Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, the Communication Guild for all majors and minors, the Elton Abernathy Forensics Society, and the LBJ Debate Society.

Internships

Students who seek on-the-job experience may be interested in applying for an internship and enrolling in COMM 4390. Requirements for the course may be found in the Courses sections of the catolog.

Department News and Events

Jasmine Austin published the first edition of her second book, Communication and Organizational Changemaking for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Case Studies Approach.

Roseann Mandziuk was the Keynote Speaker at Wayland Baptist University's "Women's in Scholarship Forum". She presented the lecture, "Recipes and Reconciliation: Lady Bird Johnson's 1964 Whistle Stop Tour Through the South." She also met with students and faculty during her visit to Plainview in West Texas.

Emily Pollard (M. A., 2021) Emily received the 2023 Top Master’s Thesis (Rhetorical/Critical Analysis) for her thesis, “Intersections of Queer and Immigrant Identities in NBC’s ‘Superstore’” at this year’s convention.
