Timothy P. Mottet is dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Texas State University-San Marcos. He has a BA from William Jewell College, an MS from Boston University, and an EdD from West Virginia University.
Prior to returning to Texas State in 2011, Dr. Mottet chaired the Department of Communication at the University of Texas-Pan American and held the Henry and Margaret Hauser Endowed Chair in Communication. While at Texas State between 1998-2007, Dr. Mottet was the 2005 recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Service and the 2004 recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Research. He is a 2010 graduate of Harvard University’s Management Development Program for higher education leaders.
Dr. Mottet’s research examines the intersections of communication, personality, and cognition and their application to instructional, organizational, and interpersonal contexts. He is currently working with a team of researchers at Dell Children’s Hospital and assessing the communication effectiveness of pediatric trauma team members in hospital emergency rooms.
Dr. Mottet has co-authored 4 books, published 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and presented over 45 competitively selected conference papers at regional, national, and international conferences. His research appears in Communication Education, Communication Quarterly, Communication Research Reports, Journal of Psychology, and Psychological Reports. Dr. Mottet is listed among the top 20 most prolific researchers in Communication Studies. In his free time, he and his partner enjoy international travel, scuba diving, ballet, and entertaining friends.
