Visual Resource Center

Welcome to the Visual Resources Center (VRC), Department of Art & Design. This facility, developed by the Art History Area of study, is available for use by all Department of Art & Design Faculty and Students. It is located in JCMitte, Room 3102.

You can find the Reception Desk at room 3102A, just to the right as you exit the elevator on the third floor.

Please check for posted operating hours (link at left), as they may change several times per year. Faculty may access the collections at any time.

The VRC supports instruction and research using art images, both still and moving. Presently there are about 450,000 digital images available for instruction & learning through ARTstor, a database found on the Alkek Library web site.

At the VRC, Department Faculty & Students have access to approximately 45,000 35mm-slides of works of art and visual culture from prehistoric to contemporary times. In addition, the VRC has cataloged approximately 9,000 digital images; the majority of these pertain to Modern Art.

With few exceptions, other materials may be borrowed by Art & Design Faculty only. Please use the collection link, at left, for a listing of all available materials.

Contact the VR Curator if you would like to have a tour or orientation to the collections.
