Department of Art and Design

A Concrete Commitment

The recent opening of the new Joann Cole Mitte Building for Art and Design started a new chapter in the education of students in all our programs. Over 90,000 square feet of classrooms, labs, lecture halls, symposium rooms, exhibition galleries, and office and support facilities make this facility a most impressive addition to the landscape at Texas State University-San Marcos. This represents an expansion of over 45,000 square feet over the previous facilities and now ranks as the premier university art facility in the State of Texas. A new program, Digital Photographic Imaging (BFA), was added Fall 2005 and will be partially housed in Sabinal Hall. An MFA in Communication Design began in Fall 2007, and more graduate programs are slated to follow.
