Kristi Schroeder, Communication Design Graduate

Kristi Schroeder is a designer, quilter, entrepreneur and avid traveler living in Austin, Texas and is the creative behind Initial K Studio. Ms. Schroeder came to quilting through her work as a graphic designer in the corporate world. This native Texan is a world traveler who draws inspiration for her quilts in art, fashion, and textiles from around the globe.

Kristi received her BFA in Communication Design in 2003. After working a number of years in corporate design, she decided to change directions and apply her design skills to her passion for quilting. She’s is a member of the Modern Quilt Guild and has been published in Love Patchwork & Quilting, Make Modern Magazine, QuiltCon Magazine as well as being featured in D Magazine and Dallas Morning News.

This past November, both Modern Waves and Migration Quilts were showcased at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX. Recently, the Migration, Modern Waves and Ocean Waves quilts were showcased in the QuiltCon East 2017 exhibit and Ms. Schroeder’s Modern Waves Quilt was awarded first place in Modern Traditionalism category.

Her first book, Southwest Modern: From Marfa to New Mexico: 18 Travel Inspired Quilts, was released in Fall 2017 by Lucky Spool Media. Part travel guide and part quilt book, Southwest Modern is a first in the quilting industry – never before have the rich patterns, colors and landscapes of the American Southwest served as the sole inspiration behind 18 modern, graphic quilts.
