My education in Art has been as varied and opposite as it could possibly be. I went from a small West Texas school, Sul Ross State University where I received my BFA, to the master's program at the University of Texas in Austin in Art Education. I have been unbelievably lucky in the professors that I have learned from and been mentored by in both locations. They pushed me to be my best and taught me the true lessons of being an art teacher. I am forever grateful and try to pass on what they shared with me. My career has taken me from Elgin ISD, to a private school in Austin, to New Braunfels ISD, and—for the last 19 years—to Hays CISD. The majority of my experience has been middle school but I have taught everything from Pre-K through High School, with the exception of 3rd grade. Teaching at Texas State is truly a blessing; I hope that I can inspire the next generation of teachers to incorporate art into their classrooms with confidence and ease.
