Degree/Certification

 

Preparation to become an art teacher involves coursework in the Department of Art & Design as well as in the College of Education. See site of the Office of Educator Preparation for information on  requirements and procedure for making application to enter the teaching program.

 

 

 

The Department of Art & Design offers two plans for All Level Certification: 

 

 

BFA in Studio Art with All Level Certification - Major Code: 603.18

 

Hour Requirements: - 133 minimum

        75 hours ART
        39 hours advance courses
          9 hours writing intensive

Proficiency Requirements:

  • Foreign Language
  • Computer Science
  • A minimum Texas State and Major GPA of 2.5 is required.
  • Grades of “C” or better are required in all courses within the Major and Certification Sequence.

To obtain Block and Student Teaching assignments students must fill out an application in the Office of Educator Preparation the semester prior to taking the courses.

Students are REQUIRED to attend the Student Teaching Roundup at the beginning of the long semester prior to Student Teaching.

Deficiency Plan

The deficiency plan applies to those with a Bachelors Degree, and is in addition to the requirements of the Office of Educator Preparation. 

Contact Dr. Erik Nielsen to request a portfolio review for determination of possible credit.
