Itinerary

Day 1  Tuesday, 5/26
Travel from home to the airport, join group on a scheduled international flight to Italy

Day 2. Wednesday, 5/27
Morning arrival at Leonardo DaVinci International Airport, Rome, travel to Florence, grab a taxi and begin life in Italy.

Day 3, Thursday 5/28
 AM-Orientation. Discuss program operations,  travel by train, bus and around Florence, and how to buy food.

Day 4 Friday, 5/29
AM- Meet at Fuji Studio for safety lecture.  Finish the day exploring parts of Florence

Day 5 Saturday, 5/30
AM- Tour of the churches of Santa Maria Novella, and San Lorenzo.   PM- Photography or sketching in the Central Market & San Lorenzo area.

Day 6 Sunday,  5/31
Free Day,  Optional Italian cooking class and dinner.

Day 7 Monday, 6/1
Free Day, An opportunity to shop, do household chores, have a gelato.

Day 8 Tuesday, 6/02
AM-  Field trip to the top of the Duomo for a birds-eye view of Florence. PM-  A visit to the Baptistery, sketching around the piazza & bell tower.

Day 9 Wednesday 6/03
AM-  Field trip to the Gothic Church of San Marco.   PM- Studio classes will meet as announced.

Day 10 Thursday 6/04
AM-  Field trip to the Duomo Museum with its rich sculptural holdings.   PM- Studio classes will meet as announced.

Day 11 Friday, 6/05
AM The Accademia with its famous David by Michelangelo is our destination. PM- Studio classes will meet as announced.

Day 12 Saturday 6/06
Day-long excursion to Pisa.  PM- Weather permitting, visit Lucca and the mummy of Santa Zia.

Day 13 Sunday 6/07
Free Day  Consider visiting the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens.

Day 14 Monday,  6/08
Group 1: Optional train trip to Venice, room assignments and guided tour.  Group 2: Free Day, consider a visit the Church of Santa Croce.

Day 15 Tuesday, 6/09
Group 1 visit the 53rd Venice Biennale, a world-wide representation of Contemporary art..  Group 2: Free Day to travel or visit sites in and around Florence

Day 16 Wednesday 6/10
Group 1: free day until the late PM train returns to Florence.  Group 2: Free Day to travel or visit sites in Florence

Day 17 Thursday 6/11
Free Day  Consider visiting the Oltrano, seeing Santa Felicita, art galleries and Santo Spirito

Day 18 Friday 6/12
AM: Field trip to Romanesque Monastery and cemetery of San Miniato al Monte.

Day 19 Saturday 6/13
AM- Visit to the Medici Chapels   PM- Studio classes will meet for critique or assignments

Day 20 Sunday 6/14
AM. Studio classes will meet after the morning lecture.  PM. Tour the world renowned Uffizi Art Galleries.

Day 21 Monday 6/15
Free Day  Optional trip to the Cinque Terra, a day at the beach.  

Day 22. Tuesday, 6/16
Free Day  Consider a panoramic bus ride to the Etruscan hill-town of Fiesole, overlooking Florence and the Arno valley.

Day 23 Wednesday 6/17
AM- A morning walk to the National Museum (Bargello)  PM- Studio classes will meet as announced.

Day 24 Thursday  6/18
Day-long excursion to Siena   PM- Continue our tour to the Medieval hill town of San Gimignano.

Day 25 Friday 6/19
Final reviews and critiques, began packing and cleaning apartments.  PM- Ice cream party and art show

Day 26 Saturday, 6/20
Last day in Florence.  Finish packing and cleaning apartments.

Day 27 Sunday, 6/21
Travel to Rome, hotel check-in, visit the Trevi fountain, Pantheon, and Piazza Navona in our walk through Rome.

Day 28 Monday, 6/22
Visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel  PM- A tour of St. Peters.

Day 29 Tuesday, 6/23
Visit to the Ancient Roman Forum, Trajan’s Column and the Colosseum.  PM- Free afternoon

Day 30, Wednesday,  6/24
Early morning departure from the Rome airport to San Antonio, Houston, or Austin,  arriving late PM.
